“Oh? So what?”
Before Mom can continue speaking, the little girl jumps up from her chair excitedly.
“I told you about the woman who came today!”
Dad immediately falls silent.
“Which woman?” he asks cautiously.
“That lady in the nice coat,” the girl says, “came to help me find the papers.”
Mom seems even stricter now.
“And where did you look?”
The girl thinks for a moment, then proudly replies:
– In the study! Because Dad said that’s where all the important documents are.
Dad visibly sighs in relief.
“It was Mrs. De Vries from administration,” he says quickly. “She came to bring me a contract I forgot to sign.”
Mom still looks at him suspiciously.
“Why didn’t you say this before?”
Dad opens his mouth, but the little girl interrupts him again.
“Oh, yes!” he exclaims. “And then Dad gave him something really big!”
Mom’s eyes widen.
Father slowly turns to his daughter.
“What do you mean exactly?”
The girl smiles broadly.
“A pile of old papers! He said he was glad to finally get rid of that crap.”
There is a brief silence.
Then mom starts laughing.
Dad sighs in relief and says:
“Next time I’ll tell you right away who’s coming over.”
The girl looks from her father to her mother in surprise.
“Why are you looking so weird? I just told you what happened, right?”
And that’s exactly why mom and dad decided one thing from that day on:
When a child tells a story, you always have to wait until the whole story is over.
THE END.
