Here’s a simple, old-fashioned trick for cleaning your oven.

Let’s be honest: who hasn’t jumped for joy at the thought of cleaning the oven? Between the caked-on grease, forgotten spills, and stifling heat, it’s the corner of the kitchen we avoid looking too closely at. The result: we put it off, we forget about it… until the dreaded day. But what if a simple trick could change everything? A technique passed down from mother to daughter, without scrubbing or using harsh chemicals? We promise, it’s easier than you think.

The unexpected ingredient that works miracles

It’s a secret from Grandma that’s inside… a dishwasher capsule! Yes, the one you slip into the dirty dishes drawer. Why does it work? Because these little capsules contain powerful degreasing agents designed to eliminate even the most stubborn residue. And combined with the steam, the entire interior of the oven is gently softened.   Amazing, right?

What you need for this homemade steaming method

You will only need:

  • 1 dishwasher tablet (gel or solid, it doesn’t matter)
  • 1 baking dish or casserole dish
  • Tap water
  • A microfiber cloth or soft sponge

No gloves, corrosive products, or elbow grease needed: you can already breathe a sigh of relief!

Simple steps for a perfect result

  1. Preheat oven to 90–95°C (no higher!).
  2. Meanwhile, fill the bowl with hot water and add the capsule.
  3. Once the oven is hot, place the baking dish on the middle shelf.
  4. Close the door and let it rest for an hour. Use this time to do something else!
  5. After an hour, turn off the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Be careful of the steam when you open it.
  6. Just wipe the inside with a damp cloth: the grease will magically come away!
