Every woman knows the horror: looking in the mirror and seeing one (or more) uninvited “guests” on her chin that weren’t there yesterday. The first reaction is usually panic and reaching for the tweezers. But before you pluck it out, pause for a moment. Dermatologists warn: this could be your body sending you a signal about what’s going on inside you.
1. Genetics or hormones?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. According to Dr. Hadley King, a dermatologist in New York City, chin hair is much more common than you might think.
Reason: It’s a combination of genes and hormones.
For single hairs: Tweezers remain the quickest and easiest method.
For more stubborn areas: Laser hair removal is a long-term solution that destroys hair follicles.
Mechanism: Male hormones (androgens), which every woman has in small amounts, affect hair follicles. If your hair follicles are more sensitive to them, the result is unwanted hair growth.
