The important issue of road safety for older drivers is back on the agenda. While France insists on lifelong driving licenses, the Netherlands has taken radical measures: some elderly people will no longer be allowed to drive trucks. This decision could even mark the beginning of a European revolution in terms of driving licenses.
Netherlands: People over 75 are no longer allowed to drive trucks.
Officially, Dutch drivers over the age of 75 can no longer hold a category C or CE license, which allows them to drive trucks or vehicles with trailers. This decision, made in accordance with the Dutch Road Traffic Act, is based on public safety considerations.
Strict penalties are imposed for violations of the rules:
Fine of 1200 euros
Maximum 8 months exemption from driving license requirement
