According to   Health Direct,   palpitations, a rapid heartbeat, or fluttering can also indicate low blood sugar. When blood sugar drops, adrenaline is released, triggering a ‘fight-or-flight’ response and causing these symptoms. Hypoglycemia can also lead to an irregular heartbeat and reduced blood flow to the heart. This can cause heart rhythm disturbances. Although quite rare, this can sometimes lead to ‘death in bed’ syndrome in patients with type 1 diabetes.
